InvenSense Wearable SoC Platform Solution Enables Fast Time-To-Market For eeBBK To Deliver Children Trackers

Provides all of the Wellness/Fitness Sensor related Context and Analytics Required for today’s Children Tracker and Smart Watch Products

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 5, 2017– InvenSense, Inc., (NYSE: INVN), a leading provider of MEMS sensor platform solutions, announced that the InvenSense ICM-30632 Wearable Sensor System on Chip (SoC) is being used to deliver the wrist worn fitness/wellness features in children wristband products by Chinese OEM eeBBK. The new product launch of eeBBK’s Children’s Watch, is using InvenSense’s wearable SoC to deliver a variety of sensor related wellness/fitness features such a Photoplethysmography (PPG) Motion artifact correction, steps, activity classification, distance, and sleep analysis.

The InvenSense wearable SoC platform includes an integrated 6-axis MEMS (3-axis accelerometer + 3-axis gyroscope) motion sensor, an embedded ARM Cortex processor, and InvenSense’s Digital Motion Processor (DMP) blocks for efficient lower power sensor processing in a small 3mm x 3mm 24-QFN package. The complete wearable SoC delivers the following activity and fitness related features, in addition to the baseline wrist-worn feature set of step counter, activity classifier (walk, run, bike, still), and Bring-to-See gesture:

  • Calorie counter
  • Sleep quality analysis
  • Distance and floors climbed
  • Wrist gestures: double-tap and shake
  • Analytics: walk/run and stand/sit time accrual and sedentary reminder
  • PPG sensor related measurements (motion artifact correction and R-R interval for Heart Rate Variation).

The InvenSense wearable platform is intended to provide the baseline wrist worn features related to context, vital sign monitoring and inertial sensor related analytics, allowing the OEM to focus on individual specific product feature differentiation.

“Using the InvenSense ICM-30632 Wearable SoC allowed our product to come to market much faster with our first Android platform child safety tracking product,” said Mr. Xiong Tao, Senior Manager, Sensor Sourcing at eeBBK. “The InvenSense solution allowed our engineering team to focus on the other key features of our product like long battery life and reliable connectivity. The ICM-30632 plays a key role in offering analytics based on steps, activity, and distance calculation for both the child and their parents, giving valuable feedback on the child’s day and habits. The Wearable SoC also provided us with some valuable wrist gestures allowing us to introduce a new use case to control the music player while running.”

“Delivering all the core sensor related analytics and context in a small 3x3mm SoC is an innovation that will enable our wearable customers to focus on additional software and hardware related features which can really differentiate them from their competitors,” said Eitan Medina, vice president of marketing and product management at InvenSense. “Activity recognition, in-activity heart rate monitoring in addition to analytics related to sleep, floor count, and distance are the basic building blocks of any wrist worn wellness/fitness device and take a great deal of engineering know-how to deliver accurately. InvenSense’s new wearable SoC platform can do this efficiently, accurately, and at very low power.”

InvenSense’s ICM-30631 and ICM-30632 complete wearable platforms are sampling today and will be available to the wider distribution channel in Q2 2017. InvenSense is exhibiting in booth #31420 in South Hall 3 at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 5 – 8, 2017.
