High-Performance 6-Axis MotionTracking® IMU with AirMotion Library

The ICM-40627 is a 6-axis MEMS Motion Tracking device that combines a 3‑axis gyroscope and a 3‑axis accelerometer. This device is targeted at handheld devices that require precise mouse pointing and motion control. The ICM‑40627 comes bundled with TDK’s Air Motion Library that enables precise mouse pointing, cursor control, swipe, roll and other motion gestures. The ICM‑40627 and the Air Motion Library together provide a complete out‑of‑the‑box solution for handheld devices such as Smart TV remotes, air mouse, presentation pointers and smart pencils.

ICM-40627 has a configurable host interface that supports I²C and SPI serial communication, features a 2 KB FIFO and 2 programmable interrupts with ultra low‑power wake‑on‑motion support to minimize system power consumption. The ICM‑40627 supports low gyro and accel sensor noise in this IMU class and has high stability against temperature. Other industry‑leading features include InvenSense on‑chip APEX Motion Processing engine for gesture recognition, activity classification, and pedometer, along with programmable digital filters, and an embedded temperature sensor. The device supports a VDD operating range of 1.71V to 3.6V, and a separate digital IO supply, VDDIO from 1.71V to 3.6V.

The Air Motion Library (AML) is a 6‑axis motion sensor algorithm that provides precise air pointing, sensor calibration, swipe gestures, roll compensation and roll gestures. This library has evolved over multiple years and provides a mature and robust software solution for customers. This library is currently supported on ARM Cortex M0, M3, and M4 microcontroller platforms. The AML can be quickly validated and evaluated on the DK‑40627 evaluation board. The AML software package including the user guide, integration guide, drivers, example code can be downloaded from the Developers Corner.

ICM-40627 and the Air Motion library hence provide a complete IP protected solution for handheld devices, enabling a smooth interactive experience with big screen devices such as a smart television. It enables quick content selection, browsing, gaming, advanced search, shortcuts, and many more features.
